Mr. GQ in the A.M.

So I'm getting on the J train this morning.. and right behind me enters a young guy dressed to impress with "THE BIBLE" in his right hand. I knew all my fellow commuters were in for a special sermon by Mr. GQ himself.

I plopped my tired ( a lil stressed out) tush down.. and it began..

"I'm not here to talk to you about religion... I am here to talk to you about the word of god.. The Bible"... "Religion is dead.. we have priest molesting children.. pastors cheating on their wives and stealing the money".. "Read the word of god written in the blood of Jesus Christ... and you too can be as lucky as I am"... "I had to go through my struggle.. but god had his mercy on me.. and he lifted me up.. so I lift his name up.. Thank you for your time this morning"

As we pulled into my stop.. I stood up.. looked at this stranger.. and gave him a simple "Thank you".. Seems to me like he must have hit a low point in his life... and although he stood in front of us well put together and FINE as ever.. I knew that we wasn't always "OK"... and that he.. like myself.. had endured some painful experiences.

I don't know his name.. his history.. his issues.. his beliefs.. or even what happened to him to make him so devoted to the "BIG GUY" upstairs. But I am grateful for him and his refreshing words.

Makes you wonder... What's religion all about anyway right? As long as you can pray you can have a beautiful relationship with god. I don't know.. just something to think about..
